Booking Information and FAQ's
Below are some frequently asked questions about booking the band. If there's anything else you need to know, just get in touch!
How long do the band play for?
The band will play for 2 sets of 1 hour or a 1 hour 40 minute straight through set. We can play for longer if so required although there will be extra charge involved. In our experience, 2 x 1 hour sets works the best for private functions. The band also offer various options of background/reception music for earlier in your event.
What do the band wear?
The band dress in black suits and shirts. Black tie is available upon request. If you have any preference to the bands dress code, just ask
Can we request songs and playlists?
If it is your wedding, then we will learn your first dance if we are given enough warning. You can suggest tune for us to play, and we will do our best to incoporate them into our set. Unlike a lot of function bands, we do have a great range of genres as well as tunes, so if there's a particular style you prefere, then we will lean our set towards that.
Is the band on the website the band we get?
The Geoff Lai Special have had the same line up since the start and we'll only take a gig on if we can all make it. However, we do have a whole list of understudies that we've played with many, many times before and whom we trust to provide the same musical expertise as a full time member incase the worse happens.
On the night, what happens when the band aren't playing? Can you provide a disco?
When we take a break, before and around 30 minutes after our performance, we can provide music through our system. If you would like to provide your own MP3 player with personal playlists thats fine, or we can bring our own. If you'd like us to provide music for longer, that can be arranged.
We'd like a bigger band with a full horn section to give our guests something really special, do you perform as a larger ensemble?
Yes, we often go out as a 5-8 piece band, we can provide a full horn section and a keyboard player for that bigger sound. Of course there is an extra cost for this, so just ask when you book.
Can you provide some instrumental/jazz music earlier in the day?
Yes, we can provide instrumental jazz, funk or ratpack style vocal tunes during the day. This is usually during dinner or while your guests mingle upon arrvial. When you book this through us, we give you a discount as we are already there. This way, it will be significantly cheaper than booking someone separate.
Do the band have insurance?
The band has £1 million liability insurance that covers our equipment. Copies of cover certificate are available on request.
Do the band travel?
Although we are based in the south of England, we regularly travel all over the country. We will of course charge extra for the travel and in some occassions it maybe necessary for you to provide accomodation. This can be sourced and booked by yourselves or the band.
How do we get a quote?
Just drop us an email and we'll do our best to get back to you within 48hours, if you don't hear anything, there may have been a fault, so please try us again. To provide an accurate quote we need to know timings(start, finish, and what time we can set up), location, amount of live music required, rough size of room, how many guests and of course the date. If you provide all this information, we can quote you straight away.
Can we come and see the band live?
Unlike a lot of function bands, we make sure that we do have gigs that you can come and watch. We know its important to see us in person, so just get in touch and we can give you our upcoming dates. Of course, during peak seasons, we do less performances, but give us enough notice and something will come up!
Are there any hidden costs or band requirements?
There are no hidden costs, the fee we quote you is the fee you pay unless your circumstances or event plans change drastically. All the band require is access to some power points, just 1 or 2 will suffice. Also, as most functions will be in the evening, some food and drink at some point throughout the night. Alcoholic drinks are not required. |
